The Units of Study seem much more vague and less concrete than I'm used to teaching. I think that that will be both beneficial (for teachers and students) and challenging (for teachers and students). There is definitely an emphasis on growth, self monitoring, and an all-around higher level of independence.
Looking at the table of contents, it looks as though we already cover these during the school year. However, it will be nice that we will all be covering the same material. Like Lyndi, I am a little concerened about the vagueness.

The Units of Study are building blocks that lay a foundation that allows for students to succeed. The topics are not unreachable. They are topics we already cover, however, it will be nice to see how everyone is covering these and what input is given as we get deeper into each one.

Upon reading more I am questioning where the final suggested reading level of E/F came from. I have seen D/E or higher in the overview and at the top of the final unit. If someone runs across E/F while reading please post the page numbers. Thanks.

I agree with Jaime, that the foundation is being laid, whereby reading development will become strong in a child. Success is what we're striving for. Ex. If the foundation of a house is strong and secure, the house will last and not fall. Also, when I read, the student should be at D or E at the end of kindergarten, not E/F. I had heard the rumor, too.
