I think that Linda Hoyt will fit into our reading lessons by the use of her suggested mentor texts. Since we have been using Calkin's for our grade level reading lessons we have found that Hoyt's lessons do not match up with the level of rigor that is expected by CCSS.

Linda Hoyt books/lessons fit nicely in with the Calkins lessons.

We incorporated them as read aloud books at the beginning of the year so that students were familiar with the books and then we used some of them again as mentor texts so that students could focus on what we were trying to teach instead of just focusing on the story.

The students are familiar with these books, they will be a good resource for mentor texts.

Concurring with what Heather said, it will be good to introduce several Linda Hoyt books in the beginning of the year and then continue to go back to them as we go deeper into comprehension strategies later in the year. We may not use a Hoyt lesson, but still use the mentor text.
